Otto Construction was awarded this project and stripped down the existing building to its essential structure and reconstructed it to create a variety of spaces properly scaled for student groups. Portions of the existing exterior concrete walls were removed and replaced with glass curtain walls to introduce natural light, engage the interiors with the ravine and provide an attractive and inviting entrance. HVAC ductwork and other overhead utilities have been left exposed which allowed ceiling to be raised two feet. All new finish materials were provided throughout the facility allowing the introduction of a variety of colors and textures to enliven and enrich the spaces.
The open floor plan allows for large and comfortable common areas, both indoors and outdoors, that allow students to better interact. The re-purposed Student Center provides an important link between the east and west halves of the campus in a circulation strategy known as “Clear Connections”. The renewed facility includes a new bookstore, cafeteria, administrative offices, classrooms, conference rooms, lounge areas and open flex space.
