Otto Construction has been awarded the AGC Constructor of the Year Award for its outstanding work on the Fairytale Town Welcome Center and Story Center. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Otto Construction has been recognized for its ingenuity and expertise in overcoming complex project challenges and executing unique undertakings.

Originally built by Otto Construction in 1959, Fairytale Town has remained a beloved Sacramento landmark, enchanting generations of children and families. For over six decades, the park has provided a magical space where nursery rhymes and fairytales come to life. In an extraordinary full-circle moment, Otto Construction had the honor of returning to Fairytale Town to expand the park, delivering the first permanent structures built there in over 60 years.

The new 2,782-square-foot Story Center enhances Fairytale Town’s mission of fostering creativity and imagination. The space features a children’s indoor play activity and exhibit area, a community room, a staff meeting room, and ample storage. Here, young visitors can write, act out, and produce their own stories in an inspiring indoor environment, which also connects to an outdoor amphitheater. The adjacent 2,956-square-foot Welcome Center houses a box office, administrative offices, a gift shop, and accessible all-gender restrooms. A striking 34-foot clock tower marks the park’s new main entrance, serving as a welcoming beacon to visitors.

The project’s design was inspired by traditional English cottage villages, seamlessly integrating the new structures into Fairytale Town’s whimsical setting. These intricate architectural elements demanded skilled craftsmanship and construction techniques not commonly used today. By blending traditional design with meticulous craftsmanship, Otto Construction successfully enhanced Fairytale Town’s historic charm while creating new spaces for future generations to enjoy. The AGC Constructor of the Year Award is a testament to Otto’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and the enduring legacy of building community treasures.
