Foundation of Our Culture
Otto Construction’s values of doing business with honesty, integrity, and compassion for others have been upheld since our founding in 1947. These values also influence our commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture, where everyone is accepted as their true self and has a sense of belonging.
The collective sum of our employees’ individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, inventiveness, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities, and talents significantly contributes to our culture, reputation, and achievements. Their engagement, participation, and trust empower them to go the extra mile for each other, the company, and our clients.
Embracing and Encouraging Differences
We embrace and encourage diversity in all its forms, including race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, family or marital status, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, religious beliefs and practices, language and accent, socio-economic status, veteran status, and many other characteristics that make our employees unique and our company exceptional.
DEI Initiatives
- Respectful Communication and Cooperation: Fostering an environment where all employees communicate and cooperate respectfully.
- Strategic Planning: Encouraging the representation of different groups and employee perspectives through teamwork and active participation in strategic planning sessions.
- Hiring Practices: Implementing diverse interview panels to form a well-rounded view of each candidate and gauge different qualities. Advertising job opportunities on different digital platforms like Indeed, Glassdoor, our company website, and social media channels, as well as attending university and high school career fairs to reach a wider audience.
- Learning and Development Workshops: Offering continuous training, development, and leadership opportunities available to all our employees.
- Transparency in Career Advancement: Providing all employees with information on the different opportunities for growth with clear and specific qualifications and requirements for different positions within Otto.
- Work/Life Balance: Supporting work/life balance through flexible work schedules to accommodate diverse needs.
- Community Contributions: Promoting a greater understanding and respect for diversity through employer and employee contributions to the communities we serve. Encouraging volunteerism and community engagement through monetary support, in-kind donations, and matching employee donations to favorite nonprofits.
- DVBE/WBE/Small Business: We encourage diversity and inclusion in our supply chain by using vendors and trade partners who are members of underrepresented communities including Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE), Women Business Enterprise (WBE) and small businesses.
- Inclusion and Diversity Training: We host training courses that educate our employees about unconscious bias, microaggressions, and other forms of discrimination to avoid.
- Partnering with Industry Organizations: As members of construction organizations such as AGC and SRBX, Otto is supporting and participating in their efforts of making DEI initiatives more accessible in the construction industry.
